totally cool dorks

Taylor, James & Spencer are self-professed dorks, nerds I think is the word that they actually use and Lauri and I have to agree most of the time. Taylor and James are both in the chess club, both enjoy Star Wars and Nintendo a little too much but neither of them seem to care too much what everyone else thinks, nerds it is and they think it's great. Yesterday there was nothing going on after school which never happens, so Lauri and I traded kids (Allie went there, James came here) and let them play until 8pm, they were in heaven. It was beautiful weather and without even being asked the boys played outside in the back yard for several HOURS. Yes, that's right, they chose out door recreation over electronic entertainment YAY! Maybe I haven't completely failed as a parent... I looked outside and saw them swinging their swords (sticks) at each other and their toy light sabers too and although I rolled my eyes for a minute it also made me very happy to see them so engaged in their make believe battle. I had to run to Target for a sec to grab something I had forgotten for dinner and asked Taylor if Ethan could play outside with them while I ran. His response was "but we're in the middle of a war mom". Oh, pardon me! Later I noticed James hauling all these sticks to the middle of the yard and later I looked out the window and saw this awesome tee-pee that they had built! When I went out there to take a picture, they were putting all of the swords in the middle and informed me that it was not a tee-pee, it was a bon-fire. They were burning all of their weapons because the war was over and they no longer had any use of their weapons. (Hmmm, sound like a Book of Mormon story you've heard before?) Then they told me that they were victorious even over staggering odds, 75 to 1 infact. I smiled to myself, knowing that some day this blog may come back to haunt them and then told them to give me their best warrior faces for the picture. Anyway, like I said, totally cool dorks.
