During the first few minutes of General Conference after President Hinkley announced President Eyring as the new second counselor, he headed back to his seat but hovered in front of President Eyring for a few seconds. The entire conference center roared with laughter but the camera angle of anyone watching the satelite broadcast was only of President Hinkley's back and we couldn't not tell what was so funny. It was a huge bummer because we know President Hinkley's humor and we were sure we were missing out on something big. My sister in law Jen sent me an email this morning and the mystery is finally solved! President Hinkley used his cane to "knight" President Eyring, of course as a joke, and President Eyring's smile says it all.
It touched my heart to see these pictures, because at 97 years old and the weight of the world on his shoulders, he is still truely joyful. It just goes to show that you don't have to always be so serious all the time. What a wonderful man we have leading our church.
