today was my first time with a new visiting teaching partner and visitee (is this a word) and everything was going very well. ethan has a hard time sitting still, kathi assured me that he could head into her young daughter's room and not hurt anything in there. so for a while he was delivering arm loads of stuffed animals to me while we chatted away. the lady we teach is having a rather difficult time and there were a few tears that distracted me from paying attention to what ethan was doing. then i realized that i hadn't seen him for a while and so i excused myself to check on the little turkey. as i headed down the hall to the bedrooms i could hear water running - oh dear. as i rounded the corner i found ethan standing in the giant master bathroom tub in about four inches of water giving one of the stuffed animals a bath. somehow he had managed to turn on only the cold water - thank goodness - and plugged the tub with the stopper so it was quickly filling up, i'm sure just like he wanted. i saw him and started to work quickly. i sat him on my lap, removed his socks and rung them out, drained the water and left he stuffed animal to dry in the tub. we made it back to the living room and kathi said, "where did he find water?" and i said, "in your bath tub - i'm SO SORRY!" i related the scene as i had found it and she burst out laughing through her tears and exclaimed, "this was the comic relief that i needed this morning!" of course, i wanted to die, how embarrassing, i barely know her and already my kid is trying to flood her house! she made sure to make me feel ok about the whole thing, assuring me that she too has had toddlers and they have done much worse. i have to laugh about it now, but wow, leave this kid alone for 4.2 minutes and he's bathing the stuffed animals. who knew? i wish i could've grabbed a camera somehow, it was a pretty funny scene. i'm glad my humiliation could curb her saddness even if it was only for a few minutes. on our way out the door she said, "please be sure to bring ethan back with you next time".
**is your toddler fascinated with water?**
**how have your kids embarrassed you like this?**
**would anyone like to volunteer to tend this boy the next time i have to go?**

I'll take him anytime at my house...he is too cute!
I'll take him~ I promise not to blog while he plays in the toilet ;)
Oh the life of a toddler! It is amazing they all don't end up destroying everything we own:) This is too funny though, and it sounds like it was the comic relief that was much needed:)
I love the story..it was great. The only thing I can think of that reminds me of toddlers and water is when Riley was 2 yrs old and fell in love with the toilet and Micah's Fisher Price cowboy town. One day the toilet over flowed and I just figured it was because Riley put a ton of TP down the toilet and flushed...AGAIN...well after Troy tried everthing he couldn't figure out what the problem was so he had to unbolt it from the floor. She had flushed one of her favorite cowboys down the toilet. Troy retireved the cowboy and I was ready to trash it when Riley saw and threw a 2 year old tantrum. So we ended up boiling him and he is still living at our house. We call him the "poop wrangler"
that story is hillarious! i'm glad i'm not the only one with a crazy toddler in the house. if ethan ever were to flush buzz or woody, we would have to boil them too. there are just some toys that they can't seem to live without! thanks karrie!
